The Russian Federation values the dialogue partnership with ASEAN on ICT security-related issues, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov during the opening of the 2nd Global Digital Forum in Moscow.
He noted that this is the first high-level event on this matter, which indicates growing trust among our countries and the commonality of approaches to the principle of the sovereign equality of states and non-interference in domestic affairs, as well as to the matter of bridging the digital divide.
“This is exactly what our leaders agreed on during the anniversary Russia-ASEAN Summit in Kazan last June. Relying on these agreements, we will consistently strengthen our cooperation in the digital field,” Alexander Alimov said.
The deputy foreign minister also called for deepening international cooperation on digital security.
“Unfortunately, we have to state that challenges in the digital field are constantly growing in scope and complexity. The only effective way to counter this threat is to strengthen international cooperation on information security,” he emphasized.
Alexander Alimov stressed the importance of developing practical cooperation on this matter. It is important to return to discussing the draft work plan for the main areas of cooperation between Russia and ASEAN. The diplomat further noted that the international community needs to take measures to minimize terrorist and criminal risks associated with low-orbit satellite communication systems.
“It is important to minimize the risks of such systems being exploited for the purposes of interference in domestic affairs, or for criminal and terrorist means. One possible measure we propose is to implement secure technologies that allow competent authorities to ensure digital sovereignty within the national domain. The Russian Federation has developed such solutions,” Alexander Alimov said.
